Re: Welcome Tournament Staff

Hey Zornmeister, I have made a basic set-up for the tournament. We could post something like this in the public forums. What do you think?

RAID III: Nomad Tournament

Section I: Set-up

After a couple of months rest it is time to get ready for another tournament! The third tournament will offer new challenges. RAID III will be a team based tournament, which means that besides individual skill, cooperation now comes into play. It will feature teams of 3 and you will be able to form these teams yourself. You should make teams of 5 players. This mean there will be 2 back-up players. It would be nice rotate the players so everyone can play, but this is completely up to you.
Another change compared to the previous RAID tournaments is that this tournament will be played with nomad settings. There will be a group stage followed by a knock-out stage. This way all teams get to play at least several matches, making it fun for everyone.

Section II: Dates

Soon the subscription will be opened and then you can sign up you and your team to the mastersleague website. You should sign up with the same name you always use, and please also use this name during the tournament to prevent confusion.
The Tournament will probably be held in the weekend of Juli 26th and Juli 27th.
The group stage matches will be held on Juli 26th and the semi’s and final will be held the day after.

Section III: Rules

-The games will be played according to the most commonly used nomad settings for Teams of 3. These are:
Teams & Allies: Teams of 3
Map Style: Secret Random Land
Map Size: Large (5-6 players)
Game Rules: Nomad (Low resources & nomad start)
Technology: Very Expensive and Slow
Wonder Victory: No Wonder Victory
Territory Goal: No Territory Victory
All other settings are standard.
Tournament Play: On
Lock Game Speed: On
Require Random Nations: On
All other boxes unchecked.
It is not allowed to deviate from these rules. And please note that we will use random nations.
-It is allowed to have observers, provided that all players agree with this. It is at your own risk however, because observers make drops and crashes more likely to occur.
-The back-up players should try to be present in the lobby at the match times, because at the last moment one of the team members might be hindered to show up.
-If your team cannot show up at the pre-determined date, please try to contact your opponents and try to reschedule the match. This rescheduled match should be played before the pre-scheduled match time. We cannot afford to run into any delay so playing later is simply not possible. Try to be flexible with such reschedules. And when you know you cannot make it, come up with it as soon as possible. Agreeing on a reschedule with at least 6 persons can take some time.
-And finally and maybe most importantly, please read the rules in advance!

Section IV: Claiming your victory

After a match is played one player of the winning team should upload the recorded game to the mastersleague website. To do this create a new topic in the recorded games section of the forums and call this topic: vs . Besides the recorded game you should also include the following information:
-Which team won
-The score. The score is calculated by rounding every individual team members end game amount of points by 1000s and adding these points to get a total score for both teams. The scores should then be divided by 1000.

Section V: Disputes

-In case of a drop, choose “Replace with AI”
-In case of OOS (Out of sync), play again
-In case of a no show: if a team doesn’t show up at all it will count as a loss. The score will be considered to be 10-0.
-If a team shows up with less than 3 players then the team is allowed to play with less players, but the other team can just play with 3 players. In this case change “Teams of 3” to “Custom teams”.
-In case of any other disputes, first try to solve a dispute yourself. Be reasonable, it is only a friendly tournament please keep that in mind. If you cannot solve it, contact one of the tournament hosts.

Well that’s about it for the tournament, so now it’s time to log on to RoN and form yourself a team Smile

Re: Welcome Tournament Staff

Sounds good and ready for an announcement Jaguar.
I have already set up the basic frame for the tournament here. All I need to do now is to create some instructions for the team captains on how to create a team and how to add their fellow team members before they can actually add their team to the tournament.

After that there won't be much to do for admins other than entering results. Still I am goingto show you how to edit teams, rules etc. after the announcement has been made.

Could you tell me an e-mail adress of yours that I can use to add to the tournament notification system? Should be an adress that you use regularly.

Hey Jaguar,

no new date for the team tournament yet. But I guess it won't be before sometime in September.

What do you think about hosting a small, quick and dirty 1v1 or a 2v2 in 2-3 weeks to shorten the wait for the next big team tournament?

Also: What do you think about a 1v1 ladder and some kind of regular "fast tourneys" (can you remember thee ones that Saruman hosted ?

Ok nice. Some kinda warm-up tourny to keep people hanging out. Good idea. I dont know if I will have a lot of time to help in Semtember though, because in mid September I am going to study abroad for half a year, so that might take quite a lot of my time.
For the quick tourny, we do gotta watch that our time table doesnt clash with the AS tournament. I thought it starts on August 8th.

I dont know Saruman. The first tourny I played in was RAID I. I didnt play this game since the start, so I guess that was before my time.

Re: Welcome Tournament Staff

Cool Jaguar.

The quick tourney concept, from my point of view, would be small and rather spontaneous events with max 16 players, easy rules and a very short signup time (maybe 1-2 days before the actual event or even only a few hours before it) so that you know that only people sign up that are sure to make it.

Also such tournaments are on short notice and can be organized relatively spontaneously. First one would be targeted for Saturday after the AS tourney. So no conflict.

Sure! ... at least if I can be online too Wink

How about "Q'N'D"" series? Quick and Dirty?
Was thinking about giving it a bit of a variation by always having slightly different and special setting, such as "Random Sea" or "Warring States Only" for each one. Maybe even announce that setting a few hours before the actual tourney only (of course we'd have regular settings as well).

Std or Nomad? Nomad and sea is not very exiting.

I like the name QND.

No nomad.

Would that even make sense for a 1v1?

I'd like to have a small change each tournament for the very reason to not always have the same Sahara recs again and again (leave those overbalanced games to the bigger tournament) but a bit of fun and excitement by a setting that ppl might not chose to play normally.

So what do you thing about August 17th? And what setting would you like to see that has something refreshing about it?

Hm ya the only real variation you could put in is the map style. We could make it Secret Random Sea. Since most players have a bad knowledge of sea maps they probably won't recognize the map style from the start. But if its gonna be something with sea, then we really should require random nations. Otherwise everyone will pick the Dutch @@

We could also do a less regular land map, like the Amazon Rainforrest or Australian Outback, but sea is also fine with me.

Completely random is also an option. Then every type of player has a fair chance of getting a map that suits him (eg. sea would put boomers at a big advantage).

Any of these ideas to your liking? I-m so happy

And the 17th would be alright, though I would prefer saterday, because I have to get up early on monday. I am working full time in August.

Ok... hopefully last postponement from my side:

What about Saturday 23rd for the 1st one?
Once we have everything in place (tutorials, basic rules etc) it should be easy to host many other short tourney by any admin that is online and feels like hosting a small one. I think I will be able to prepare everything until that date. Next Saturday is just a bit too close.
