After a longer break it is time to prepare for the next edition of R.A.I.D.
Still 1v1
The bad news right away: Next edition of R.A.I.D. is still going to be a 1v1 tournament. 2v2 or 3v3 team events require significantly more preparations and thus time that I do not have right now. Having a 1v1 in the meantime imho is still better than nothing. So: the team event is not off the table... it just has to wait for the 3rd edition of R.A.I.D. Here is the basic plan that will most likely get some minor changes over time:
Bigger Group Stage, separated from K.O. Stage
After R.A.I.D. Vol.1 there where two things obvious that needed a change: Less stress on a single day but more matches and more fun for a longer time.
This requires us to split the tournament up into 2 stages:
A. The Group Stage
The group stage will be expanded:
- Groups will now consist of 4-6 players. [/*]
- Each player play against each other twice (home and away)[/*]
- Group Stage will last 2+weeks[/*]
- (Re-) Introduction of special home/away rules[/*]
- Depending on group size, the first 3-4 players of each group will qualify for K.O. Stage.[/*]
Sign up for the tournament is going to start sometime next week. Groups will be created similar to the first tournament, taking into account the Overall Ranking this time for the seeds. Competitors are going to play each other twice. This will result in a total amount of 6-10 matches for each player in group stage.
No fixed dates for playing matches:
The Group Stage is going to last at least 2 full weeks (and 2 weekends). Players are completely free to arrange their matches and play them whenever they like to. I am going to propose a schedule. But this is going to merely be a suggestion. For easier communication there is going to be a special forum for scheduling talks. (Participants are also going to be asked to enter their messenger details for an even easier communication). As long as matches are played within the time-frame and before the deadline ends, everything is fine.
Matches are going to be counted with the results submission, which is going to work through forum-uploads. Just like in the previous tournament. Since everybody plays each other twice (one 'home' and one 'away' match), it is recommended that you play both matches in a row.
Home/Away and the Blaklist:
We are going to reintroduce the home/away system to a limited extend:
- Home Player decides the map[/*]
- Home Player can blacklist one nation for the away player[/*]
- Home Player can decide the match type (standard or nomad)[/*]
The players play each other twice, each player being 'home player' and 'away player' once.
B. K.O. Stage
K.O. Stage is going to be held on one Saturday (target: December 8th). With the seperation of group stage from K.O. Stage, we will have less matches scheduled for a single day, allowing for BO3 matches in Semi Finals and Finals.
More Personalization
For easier communication, better organization and a more "friendly" atmosphere (=keeping the no shows away) we will require the players to add some more information to their profiles: This is going to include the age,e-mail address, the messenger address (ICQ or MSN with the latter preferred) and a mugshot (photo) of himself. Manuals on how to do this will follow. And no: this is not debatable !
That's the plan for now. Will update this document regularly. Please discuss and make suggestions
Zorn, any idea on when the tourney will be held?
Edit: Sorry im blind

Like I said: Signup is going to start next week (not sure on what day yet) and will last for one week. After this, I am going to draw the groups right away. As soon as the groups are done(which should be 1-2 days after the sign up ends) everbody can start arrangin and playing their matches.
So without knowing the exact date myself, you can expect the kick-off around mid-end of the week after the next one (between Nov. 21st and 23rd). Finals are planned for December 8th.
everything sounds pretty much ok , except ive got no msn/icq and im not gonna have it^^
and also not inerested in puttin personal details on this site.
i think the forum is enough for contactin each other.
oh and i suck @ nomad ):
ps. whats BO3
1.
bo3: best of three
Means you need to win 2 of 3 matches.
2.
I have no msn/icq, but if really requred, i will install it.
3. I like the rules, Zorn.

I am not planning to make it mandatory. Rather meant to improve the communication amongst players, make our small community a bit more "cosy" and to avoid non-dedicated players. I reserve the right, however, to not accept applications of players who do not even want to post their e-mail, in favour of the ones who show more enthusiasm. After all, it is not the private address that is being asked for, but only an e-mail, messenger, and mugshot.

Like I said, I am gonna respect that. I am a bit startled by the strictness of your decision, but I understand and accept it. Of course this means that you would have to accept strictness from the other part as well... just in case

Oh, no one will have to play nomad - far from that. But if someone feels that it is the only way he might stand a chance against his opponent, he should be free to chose so... in his home match only of course !

Best of Three. You have to win 2 out of max 3 matches to win the round.
Nomad? ;(
Nomad as in exp tech and all those crappy settings or just nomad?
If it is exp tech i vote we have a poll to scrap that rule ;(
Wait, i vote we have a poll to scrap the whole nomad rule for this tourney ;(
Im not staying up till 5am to play nomad, it'll make me sleep @@
I'll have to agree with Callum on that one=/
I think rules are great:D I like them .
Callum: Weaker palyers must have the chance to win games(in case they play nomad games regulary), so its a great rule.
PS: I will choose nomad vs Callum
Well wouldnt the weaker players get better by playing vs good players on standard settings?
PS: If its nomad in this tourney you wont get the chance to play me

ROFL Callum.... there is no such thing as a "NOMAD Rule".
Why is it that everybody gets a "Pavlovian Reflex" by hearing a signal word and is tilting out without reflection ?
Rule is merely stating that the home player can chose the setting if he wishes to. It doesn't mean that you have to have nomad in the tourney. Furthermore this is just for the group stage and not for the KO stage. Last but not least: A small element of surprise can be fun also. If we wanted to have a 100% (or at least max) equality, everybody would have to play the same nation, on the same map for every match... kinda boring?
Anyway: if demand is to remove this rule then I will do of course. I just think it *could* be a bit more fun.
This sounds like an excellent tourney....sign me in!
Home map: old world, Nomad....no Incans allowed.
excellent ideas zorn, i think this is great, specially the pictures part
tho if u have a poll for nomad stuff i will vote no
my sets will be big huge nomad

lol @ last replays^^
uc what i mean zorn, everyone can play w/ his crazy rules

I understand if youll chose other players that ready to put personal details and have icq/msn etc, that's np. and since you said that i'll agree to put my mail address on site
and if some1 asks me to play nomad ,and those are the rules - ill play. but generally i can join the STD movement here, i prefer standart games only in this tournie
Oh, by the way zorn, I just noticed your traditional method for the last RAID draw..
If you need a quicker way of drawing the pool stage, you can use this site to do it for you
http://www.random.org/lists
yeah nomad sucks
so if your against me and choose nomad i will send 5 FBI agents to R.A.I.D. your home and take all your earthly belongings... consider yourselves warned
If you need a quick way to relief yourself off, zorn, then you can use this site to do it for oyu:

heh, peaceful tech race- end age classic, me as greeks - opponent = can't chose greeks

well zorn how do you mean there is no "nomad rule" because if the home player wants to play nomad, you cannot refuse, can you? i really dont like nomad and a nomad 1 v 1 doesnt really make sense to me. i hope nobody will challenge me for a nomad. for the rest it looks good and i ll play anyway, but on a poll i would vote no nomad...
maybe we should hold a separate nomad tourny instead?
I think the nomad option is fun.
And that is what the whole thing is about
i dont like the nomad option... here is why
so yesterday night i played in one of byz's nomad diplo games.... i was bantu on aussie^^ hax... anyways i had 100 units in late IV early V of strictly army... ITS INFINATE people^^ just a lil different cause you still have to actually gather the resources.. but i just think nomad is an abooration of the game the same way infi is,, just more acceptable for the people that have been playing for so long they are a lil bored with the same old standard games
thats just my humble opinion...
_FSF_DenveR wrote:
Its absolutely false.
Do not mix nomad games with noob nomad diplomacy. LOL
They are completely different.
1. If u have 100 units---> u play with total noobs or u already won the game
2. Try nomad games where relative good players play(not diplo shit)
